What I'm up to right now

This is a /now page, inspired by Derek Sivers. Think of it as a snapshot of my life right nowβ€”what I'm focused on, what I'm learning, and what I'm saying no to. It's more personal than a resume and more current than an about page.

πŸ“ Currently based in the Bay Area, pursuing my Master's in Information Technology while tinkering with Linux servers. Balancing between building resilient systems during the day and experimenting in my home lab at night.

πŸ“š Learning

Kubernetes & Cloud-Native Everything

Finally taking the time to properly understand container orchestration beyond "docker-compose up". Service mesh, operators, CRDsβ€”all the things that seemed scary before are starting to click.

System Design at Scale

Reading "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" and having those lightbulb moments where distributed systems concepts finally make sense. Also learning the hard way through production incidents (the best teacher).

Go Programming Language

Most of the tools I'll be working with as a Software Reliability Engineer are written in Go, and being able to read, modify, and contribute to them will be a core part of my job.

🌱 Life Outside Code

Health

Lifting 3x/week & cardio 5x/week. Not training for anything specific, just trying to build consistency and not feel like a zombie after sitting at a desk all day.

Bowling

The name of the game is consistency. There's something satisfying about the physics being predictable (unlike distributed systems).

Photography

Weekly adventures with my camera. No agenda, just seeing what catches my eye. Best way to clear my head.

Chess

Playing chess whether online or offline helps me stay sharp and think several moves ahead β€” both valuable skills in tech and in life.

🚫 Intentionally Not Doing

Being intentional about what I'm saying no to right now:

  • Γ—New freelance projects β€” Focusing on my current work and side project instead of spreading myself too thin.
  • Γ—Social media scrolling β€” Limited to 30 minutes a day. The rest of the internet can wait.
  • Γ—Starting new side projects β€” I have a bad habit of starting things without finishing. Forcing myself to finish what I've started first.
  • Γ—Chasing the latest tech trends β€” There's always something new and shiny. I'm learning to go deep instead of wide.

This page is inspired by the /now movement. If you have a website, you should make one too. It's a good reminder to stay focused on what actually matters right now.

Curious about anything here?

If any of this resonates with you or you're working on similar stuff, I'd love to hear from you. Always down to chat about tech, photography, or why distributed systems are both fascinating and frustrating.
